Discover Majorca's Best Beaches

Majorca, one of the Balearic island group, is Spain's largest island and has been an extremely popular tourist destination for over half a century. Its capital is Palma, with its amazing fourteenth century Gothic cathedral watching imperiously over the city. But it is the island's abundance of sandy beaches that make it such a popular tourist destination just Discover Majorca's Best Beaches!

mallorca beaches 1.jpgThe resorts on the south of the island are a great favourite with younger tourists. To the west of Palma is Cala Mayor, a 200 metre natural sandy beach fringed by palm trees; while east of the capital and barely a stone's throw from the airport, is Palma's largest beach, Platja, or Playa de Palma. This is a 6 kilometre stretch of sandy beach, with a parade of bars, restaurants and tourist shops along the promenade. Because traffic is not allowed near the sea-front, the clear, unpolluted atmosphere makes this an extremely popular and pleasant spot. And if you are planning holidays in Majorca, and Discover Majorca's Best Beaches, I recommend you to book Majorca accommodation in advance, to find good offers for Majorca apartments or hotels.

Playa de Palma nestles between El Arenal and C'an Pastilla and a mini train links the three resorts together. By night the area teams with young singles out to make merry and dance the night away in the various clubs abounding the area.

If a more sedate and relaxing holiday is your aim, then Puerto Pollensa, on the opposite side of the island, will probably suit you better. Being the farthest resort from the airport means you won't be constantly disturbed by low flying aircraft. A few kilometres inland from the port area lies the old Roman town of Pollensa, but the hotels and resorts tend to cluster around the port, whose bay comprises of several beaches, some natural, some man-made.

The impressive Sierra de Tramuntana range of mountains towers over the area like a watchful sentinel. From here numerous mountain walks afford a welcome respite from the heat of the beach and breathtaking views out over the bay. This is a popular area for families wanting something more than sun, sand and clubs. However, for the occasional treat, the nearby resort of Alcudia offers fine, sandy beaches, clear, shallow waters and a wide variety of watersports and other beach facilities.

With over twenty beaches and resort areas all around Majorca there is certainly something to suit every taste and every budget. From the unspoilt rugged west coast with its gravel beaches and stunning mountain walks to the upmarket man-made sandy beaches of the east coast's Cala d'Or in Santanyi, Majorca prides itself in catering for every tourist taste.

Come to Discover Majorca's Best Beaches! You won't be disappointed...

Are you still searching for a nice and sunny destination for you summer holidays? If you answer yes to this question, then you have to book a Pollensa hotel or an apartment Pollensa as soon as possible!

CENTRE%20POLLENCA.jpgPollensa is located in the north of Majorca, one hour away from Palma. The town was built in the 13th century a few kilometers away from the sea to prevent pirates from attacking suddenly. That's how Pollensa avoided the total destruction. However, today you can't really see a lot left from the Pollensa medieval and most of the constructions are from the 18th century, but the little town still has a great charm.

port-de-pollenca-mallorca-22.jpgYou will enjoy taking a walk in the alley of Polensa and visiting the numerous art galleries. In the middle of all these tiny streets, you will find Plaça Major, the main square where you can relax and have a coffee. Don't miss the Via Crucis, an amazing and long stone stairway which leads to the Puig de Calvari, the pride of the city. If you should plan to spend your holiday in one of the Majorca hotels but you want to do other things than party, you should definitely visit Manacor. This small town is indeed the second biggest on the island but is still 10 times smaller than Palma. But there you can discover several exciting things during your Majorca holiday.

Travel to the East of the Balearic Island where Manacor is located. This city that doesn´t have mass tourism yet, was already built 2000 B C. This is documented by excavations. During the history Manacor played an important role. In 1300, Jaume II granted Manacor a statue of municipality and a native Manacor was an outstanding character in medieval social conflicts.
In the past the inhabitants made their living mainly by agriculture and farming. In the 19th century this changed because of the increasing industrialization. Beautiful coastlines on Ibiza

In the southeast of Ibiza there is the municipality of San José. The town Sant Josep de sa Talaia was named after the mountain located nearby. This region accommodates the island's most beaches and coves and covers a coastline of nearly 50 miles. Cala Comte, Cala Bassa and Cala Vedella are the three most beautiful coves, they even were rewarded with blue flags.

conta01.jpgEscape from the larger tourist resorts to these hidden coves of clear and turquoise blue waters. Some of the larger beaches are surrounded by pine forests. Pine forrests are abundant on Ibiza and its smaller neighbour Formentera. This is why they are popularly nicknamed „Las Pitiusas". You can easily find beautiful Ibiza apartments and Ibiza hotels close to these beaches.

Besides beautiful beaches and impressive natural parks San José also has a great historical heritage. You can visit the Punic-Roman rural settlement of Ses Païses near Cala d'Hort and another historical attraction is the Phoenician village in Sa Caleta. There are also two famous watchtowers, the Torre de ses Portes and the Torre de Comte, both built during the 17th and 18th centuries by locals to prevent invasions from the sea. Furthermore there are some marvelous churches in this region. Something you really shouldn't miss while vacationing in this region is the Cova Santa, a 25 meters deep natural cave with many stalctites and stalagmites.

In the town of Sant Josep you can also enjoy all sorts of sports and the town hall organizes many cultural and traditional activities and events throughout the year. If you want to come and enjoy the southeast coast of Ibiza you can either choose to stay in the cultural center and take an Ibiza holiday accommodation in San José or the neighbouring town of San Augustin or choose to spend most time along the coast visiting the many beaches and staying in an Ibiza hotel or Ibiza apartment in for example Cala Tarida or in Cala Vadella.

A holiday in Palma de Mallorca

In 1983 Palma de Mallorca became the capital of the newly established Balearic Islands autonomous community. It is the cosmopolitan hub of over 300.000 people. The new self-confidence is plain to see in the city center, a vibrant urbane place that is akin to the big cities of the Spanish mainland-and a world away from the heaving tourist enclaves of the surrounding bay. There's still a long way to go, but the bild_3_kathedrale_palma_de_mallorca.jpgcenter now presents a splendid ensemble of lively shopping areas, mazy lanes and refurbished old buildings, all enclosed by what remains of the old city walls and their replacements boulevards.

You will not regret visiting this island of Mallorca, and especially its capital, Mallorca where the magnificent cathedral designed by Antoni Gaudi can be found. The building is essentially gothic, with massive exterior buttresses.
You should also visit the museu de Mallorca, occupying one of the many 15th or 16th patrician mansions, and some exceptionally fine medieval religious paintings. The Basilica de Sant Francesc is the finest among the city's host of worthy medieval churches, and don't miss also the Santa Eulalia, the first church to be built after Jaume's arrival. Close by, the ajuntament is a debonair example of the late-Renaissance style, with a grand and self-assured foyer.
To eat, you have inexpensive cafés and tapas bars distributed around the city center. Xou can also palma_de_mallorca.jpgfind several Mallorca hotels and Mallorca apartments in central and popular areas of Palma.

Palma is a perfect destination for holidays; the city remains beautiful and impressive, with the grand bulk of the cathedral towering above the old town and the remnants of the medieval walls. In high season, finding an accommodation in Palma de Mallorca is not easy. So you should plan your trip in advance and book your Mallorca holiday home early.

Menorca, the Pearl of the Balearic Islands

There is a quality found on the Balearic Island of Menorca that comes from the fact that it is the smaller gem of land of the Spanish islands in the Mediterranean Sea. While boasting the same number of wonderful beaches as its larger neighbours, Mallorca and Ibiza combined, it has largely been spared the growth and development that occurs in places of such beauty. You can experience that beauty by visiting the island and live in a nice Menorca Hotel or Menorca apartment.

menorca1.jpgAs is the case with most islands of the Mediterranean, there is a sense of historical significance that seeps from the earth. A collection of Megalith stone monuments marks the evidence of a prehistoric, human influence and throughout the centuries, various civilizations have laid claim to the beautiful island.

People from the ancient Isle of Crete are thought to have influenced the early inhabitants of Menorca and the Romans and Iberians warred with pirates who pillaged along the trade routes of the warm sea. In the 16th century, Turkish warships decimated the cities of Mao and Ciutadella.

The British eventually laid claim to the island in 1708 during the War of Spanish Succession and for a turbulent century, the King of England counted Menorca as part of the empire. British influence can still be found in the architecture and in the local love of gin.

The modern culture on the island carries a traditional quaintness. The people are extremely hospitable and they have a passion for summer fiestas. Several Menorca accommodations invite visitors for a stay. Locally bred black horses and their riders often parade through town during these events and provide visitors with a unique view of tradition that goes back centuries. Music festivals also abound and visitors are treated to international opera week in Mao and the Summer Music Festival and the Capella Davidica Concerts in Ciutadella.

esel-auf-menorca.jpgThe island also offers numerous museums of cultural significance, notably the Museo de Menorca and the Museo Hernandez-Sanz in Mao and the Museo de la Natura in Ferreries.

Of course, the natural beauty of the island is one of its greatest attractions. There are countless beaches to enjoy and the snorkeling and scuba diving are considered by many to be some of the best in the Mediterranean Sea. Along the beach you can find numerous Menorca hotels which guarantee you a great closeness to the sea.

Menorca truly is the Pearl of the Balearic Islands with something to offer everyone. One of its greatest traits, however, is the relaxed atmosphere that can only be found in island living! To spend a Menorca holiday there is definitely worth it.

The variety of majorcan cuisine

The majorcan cuisine gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy marvelous traditional recipes. The Majorcans usually use olive oil for their preparation of food. Ibiza's San José Coastline

In the southeast of Ibiza we find the municipality of San José. The town Sant Josep de sa Talaia was named after the mountain located nearby. This region accommodates the island?s most beaches and coves and covers a coastline of nearly 50 miles. Cala Comte, Cala Bassa and Cala Vedella are the three most beautiful coves, they even were rewarded with blue flags. Escape from the larger tourist resorts to these hidden coves of clear and turquoise blue waters. Some of the larger beaches are surrounded by pine forests. Pine forrests are abundant on Ibiza and its smaller neighbour Formentera. This is why they are popularly nicknamed ?Las Pitiusas?.

Besides beautiful beaches and impressive natural parks San José also has a great historical heritage. You can visit the Punic-Roman rural settlement of Ses Païses near Cala d?Hort and another historical attraction is the Phoenician village in Sa Caleta. There are also two famous watchtowers, the Torre de ses Portes and the Torre de Comte, both built during the 17th and 18th centuries by locals to prevent invasions from the sea. Furthermore there are some marvelous churches in this region. Something you really shouldn?t miss out on while vacationing in this region is the Cova Santa, a 25 meters deep natural cave with many stalctites and stalagmites.

The good coast and the better

On the calm east coast of Majorca in the district of Son Servera you can find some of the island?s most beautiful beaches and holiday resorts. Earlier inhabitants of this part certainly were aware of the beauty of their coast and the people in one of the villages named their town Cala Bona or the ?good bay? which resulted in one of the neighbouring villages naming itself Cala Millor or the ?the better bay?.

Nowadays these towns are two popular holiday resorts. Cala Bona still maintained the atmosphere of a traditional fishing village with its narrow streets and the small working harbour. Hotels in Cala Bona are mainly occupied by visitors from the UK. The traditional charm of the village and the absence of any exhilirating nightlife mostly attracts families looking for relaxation and some occasional daytrips to the inlands, the neighboring harbor towns and the natural beauty nearby.

Cala Millor is more modern. It?s the largest tourist development along the east coast and is known for its 6km long stretch of gently sloping beaches with clear water, probably one of the best beaches on the island. The sea here is ideal for windsurfing and the resort boasts a windsurfing school. Even though accommodation in Cala Millor is also mostly suited for families, the town does have a wide selection of bars and discos for younger generations looking for some nightly entertainment.

When travelling to the inlands of the island from Cala Bona and Cala Millor you will also find many interesting towns that still breathe the traditional island atmosphere. Like Manacor, known for its Pearl industry and the lovely town of Son Servera. People looking for a more rural vacation can find very good Majorca accommodation in these towns or their surroundings and choose to visit the coast by car.

Sant Antoni is located in the bay of Sant Antoni and its harbor is the biggest and most important of the Island, it?s an important hub for marine traffic between Ibiza and Denia on the Spanish mainland and the smaller Balearic Island Formentera. The small parochial church from the 14th century is definitely worth a visit. Furthermore you can stroll along the beautiful boulevard El Paseo de Ses Fonts, surrounded by many fountains. At the end of the boulevard is an enormous piece of art called El Huevo de Colón, or the egg of Columbus. The beaches around Sant Antoni de Portmany are some of the most popular of the Balearics. The nicest beaches are Cala d?Hort, Cala Tarida, Cala Llantia, Cala Llosar, Cala Codolar, Cala Roja, Cala Comte, Cala Bassa, Cala Salada and Cala Gració. You can find great hotels to stay either in the center of Sant Antoni, or a hotel in the bay. If you prefer a calmer location, you can choose to book an apartment or hotel in the rural surroundings of Sant Antoni so that you can visit the town whenever you feel like it.
