Eivissa
The capital of Ibiza, also called Ibiza or Eivissa (in catalan) is a town full of surprises. Everybody knows Ibiza for its parties and its nice temperatures. But we must not forget that the city of Eivissa is well-known for its extraordinary heritage and multiculturalism. So why wouldn't you enjoy what it offers you, while staying in your nice Ibiza hotel?
The fortifications of Eivissa are one of the things the city is famous for. They were recognized as World Heritage Site and you can enjoy the narrow streets and monuments inside. The fortifications played a strategic role for the defense of the Mediterranean sea and were built on the order of Philipp II of Spain to prevent the city from pirate's invasions and plunders. The construction is supposed to have lasted 31 years.
Inside the fortifications, you can see the Diocesan Museum's See (cathedral), the Santo Domingo's church, the San Ciriaco's Chapel, the city Council's see which is used for exhibitions, concerts and cultural events during the year, the archeological museum, the Citadel and the castle.
The historic center Dalt Vila, in the upper side of the city, has been transformed into an outdoor museum. While walking around, you will see some traces of the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans or Muslims, who settled up in the Conquest of Catalonia (XIII century). You will also find the Mercat Vell (Old Market), the Portal de ses Taules (drawbridge), the Portal Nou and the Reina Sofia Park. But there is also the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Puget Museum and the Madina Yabisa Interpretation Centre where the visitor can learn everything about the city's history. For those who want to enjoy a nice glass of wine on a terrace, you can walk around the Calle de la Virgen, la Plaza de la Vila...where you will find many restaurants, bars and handicrafts shops and galleries...
You can also visit the necropolis Puig des Molins which was used as a cemetery in the past and which contains more than 3500 underground tombs. There is also the Portals de Feixa, an ancient irrigation system, which is famous for its shape.
And at the end of a tiring day (or not!) you can enjoy a nice promenade on the Botafoc's cruise ship dock extension, which offers you a beautiful view on the Dalt Vila.
Also the beaches of Eivissa are famous and really appreciated by the inhabitants and the tourists. The Talamanca beach and the Platja d'en Bosso are especially suitable for nautical sports. You can also go to the ses Figueretes beach, also really nice!!
Enjoy you stay in Eivissa !!!
