Christmas in Majorca

neules_mallorca.jpgFinally there is once again Christmas time. But if you want to escape the whole stress at home and want to experience something new, why don´t you plan a Majorca holiday during this period of time. So just book one of our cheap and comfortable hotels in Majorca and you can relax and celebrate the time with your sweethearts.
But you have to be aware that the traditions concerning the feast are quite different then you might know it from at home. The main difference is that the real celebration takes place on the 6th of January, on the Twelfth Day. It is also the day when children will get their presents. But if you are thinking there are no presents before this day at all you are wrong. Already on the 24th of December, the holy night, the "Olentzero" comes to town late at night to drop of things for the children. He is welcomed with a special and typical song that is sung by the children of the village.
Another popular tradition is the performances of scenes of the Christmas night, for example the child murder of Herodes. You can find them in every village and city.
Also the houses are decorated. But a little bit different as you might expect it. So the Christmas tree and socks in front of the chimney are not common. A main part is the nativity set which you can find everywhere. In this time the windows are decorated with "Neules" which are made of paper and are a typical decoration on the island.
On Christmas Eve the whole family meets for dinner which can take several hours. Afterwards the typical dessert is served - the turron. It is a sweet consisting of almond, honey, sugar and eggs.
weihnachten_mallorca_gasse.jpgThe most families will go after the dinner to the holy mass where the complete town is meeting. They meet to sing and dance.
But as mentioned the main celebration takes place on the 6th of January. But the three Magi will come to town already the day before. They are welcomed by the inhabitants and there are big parades. Casper, Melchior and Balthasar throw sweets to the crowd. At evening the children prepare some water for the camels and turron for the kings. Then on the next morning it is replaced with presents.
So come to Majorca and experience a new way to celebrate Christmas! Feliz Navidad!

Hiking in Tramuntana

Mallorca_EsPontas28.jpgDo you love to hike? Than have you ever considered a Majorca holiday in which you exactly do that? You should definitely do that! For example in the Tramutana range which is perfectly for this kind of activity. Book one of our comfortable hotels in Majora and there you go!
The Tramutana range is even visibly from the plane if you reach the island. It extend over 1067 meters and over a length from 90 km. The island´s biggest mountain is also situated here - the Puig Major which is 1445 meters high. But you could not only discover the highest mountains but also beautiful lakes with drinking water and gorges up to 200 meters low. Furthermore, a lot of villages with the atmosphere of the last centuries are spread over the whole area.

tomir-trekking-portada.jpgAnd there is a huge richness of species, from sheep and goats to weasels and all kinds of birds. If you are lucky you might even see one of the rare midwife toads which are only detectable in Majorca.
The whole area is well connected with several hiking tracks. It doesn´t matter if you are beginner or an advanced hiker here you will find challenges for everybody. For example if you take the route from Valldemossa to Pollenca it will last at least 4 days. But if it is to short in your opinion, you could expand the route up to two weeks without problems.
You see this island and this area is perfect for everybody who loves the nature and who loves to hike.
