"Es parla català" - One speaks Catalan

The Catalan language is a Romance language. Catalan is connected to the Italian, French and Spanish languages. It is the national and official language of Andorra and the co- official language of the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Valencian Community. On the Balearic Islands, Catalan is mainly spoken. You should absolutely keep this in mind when you spend your holiday in Majorca or your Ibiza holiday!
The language was created between the 8th and 10th Century. Today about 11,6 million people speak the Catalan language; in Spain (Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Valencian Community and Aragon), Italy (in the city of Alghero in Sardinia), France (in the Pyrenees) and Andorra. Every region has its own dialect. In Majorca one speaks Majorcan and in Valencia one speaks Valencian.
