Sant Antoni de Portmany

Sant Antoni de Portmany is Ibiza’s second largest town with about 15.000 inhabitants and it’s the most important tourist center on the Island. When the Arabs inhabited Ibiza, they called this town Portumany, later the Romans called it Portus Magnus. The Catalans themselves have finally added the name of their Saint Anthony to this town. Besides many interesting sights and attractions in the old center of the town as well as in its surroundings, this town is especially known for its vibrant and international nightlife. Sant Antoni is located in the bay of Sant Antoni and its harbor is the biggest and most important of the Island, it’s an important hub for marine traffic between Ibiza and Denia on the Spanish mainland and the smaller Balearic Island Formentera. The small parochial church from the 14th century is definitely worth a visit. Furthermore you can stroll along the beautiful boulevard El Paseo de Ses Fonts, surrounded by many fountains. At the end of the boulevard is an enormous piece of art called El Huevo de Colón, or the egg of Columbus. The beaches around Sant Antoni de Portmany are some of the most popular of the Balearics. The nicest beaches are Cala d’Hort, Cala Tarida, Cala Llantia, Cala Llosar, Cala Codolar, Cala Roja, Cala Comte, Cala Bassa, Cala Salada and Cala Gració. You can find great hotels to stay either in the center of Sant Antoni, or a hotel in the bay. If you prefer a calmer location, you can choose to book an apartment or hotel in the rural surroundings of Sant Antoni so that you can visit the town whenever you feel like it.
